Charlie Dimmock opens Strictly Gardening 2015 with help from friends.

Gardening expert and TV personality, Charlie Dimmock, will open Haywards Heath’s Strictly Gardening Event on Saturday 16th May in The Orchards Shopping Centre, as well as being part of a celebrity Gardener’s Panel to answer your questions on all things green!

2015 is the 150th anniversary of ‘Alice in Wonderland’, so in honour of this, the theme of this year’s community event is the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. All the local schools are painting huge cups and saucers, while the nursing and care homes have decorated the accompanying tea pots, while our nurseries have kindly created and donated, planted up mini wheelbarrows to set the garden scene.  All will be judged and prizes awarded by Charlie, with the help of West Sussex Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Carole Hayward and our new High Sheriff, Denise Patterson (aka Mrs Jack Higgins).

Tea parties, of course, need cakes and Oathall Community College are holding a Cake Bake Off Competition for our senior schools (all made of course with ingredients from the garden) which will be judged by our important guests and David Sawyer, President of Rotary, who have sponsored the contest.

There’ll be lots of advice, ideas and inspiration for gardeners, both green fingered or just green, as well as lots of stalls and entertainment. This year, there’ll be local school choirs and the Mid Sussex Sinfonia to serenade us, Act Too Youth Theatre and RokSkool to amaze us, the Perrymount Players Youth Group to amuse us, face-painters, a demonstration of honey making and, of course, the Mad Hatter himself (aka Greg Cox) to ensure the whole day goes well!  And, to round off a truly perfect day, there’ll be a huge Tea Party at the end for everyone, courtesy of our local Cait at the Co-op!

Orchards Manager, Nicola Bird, is delighted to be hosting the Event: “It’s just amazing to see the whole community coming together to be part of Strictly Gardening.  The day is going to be just perfect so I do hope Alice and the White Rabbit might come too!”
